Subteams
Leadership
The leaders manage and organize the team and club. They set up team meetings, organize forms such as rosters, delegate to other teams, organize fundraisers, and call the shots. Two presidents, two vice presidents, a treasurer, and secretary are elected by team members. Those officials then appoint the leaders of animation, building, business, website, and programming. One president manages business while the other takes care of building.
Building
The building team is the engineering side of the team that builds the robot. The building team is led by a co-president and building captain. The team works with our limited machine shop that includes two band saws, a belt sander, a drill press, a grinder, and a set of Dewalt power hand tools. They are experienced with electronics, systems engineering, machining, and mechanics. Builders receive all kinds of engineering help from mentors.
Business
The business team works to plan fundraisers and get sponsors. They also write grants, press releases, and the Chairman's Award. The business team members belong to the R.O.P. class, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management. Business also creates team apparel and writes the web based newsletter. The subteam puts on outreach events and helps to plan the annual BHEF Classics for Charity Car Show.
Animation
The animation team creates a 30 second 3D animation commercial that promotes the ideals and beliefs of FIRST. In 2006 and again in 2007, MorTorq won the Autodesk Visualisation Award in Los Angeles for its animation submission. The animation combines story telling talent, with 3D animation, and music to create a work of art.
Programming
The programming team works closely with the building team to program the robot. They are C gurus who simulate the machine's capabilities in lab view. They divide up the different functions of the robot and compile it all together.
Media
The newest part of team 1515 produces a Television show that airs nine times a day on our school's local broadcast station, as well as streaming on YouTube.com and podcasted in iTunes. The TV show promotes MorTorq and the ideals of FIRST. The show has enthusiastic hosts and segments that make people interested in engineering, science, technology, and most importantly, Robotics. The show is very well edited and produced.
Website
The website team has provided you with bhrobotics.com. One member is responsible for layout. Another member manages the site and updates it regularly. Usually a president works with the website team to keep it up to date and relevant.
